What is a concept saree?

A concept saree is a designer reinterpretation of the saree in which the drape is constructed rather than wrapped. It usually combines three things: a pre-stitched skirt and pallu, a structured top such as a corset, bustier or bralette, and some form of sculptural detail — ruffles, collars, capes, layered slips or three-dimensional embroidery — that a traditional drape could not support.

The difference from a pre-draped saree is one of intent. A pre-draped saree stitches the traditional drape into place so it is easier to wear; it still looks like a saree someone has draped. A concept saree uses that construction as a starting point to change the silhouette itself. Every concept saree is effectively pre-draped, but not every pre-draped saree is a concept saree.
